The finishing sector utilises pure water at various stages during manufacture including final product rinses, diluting chemicals and mainly, filling plating baths. Plated products must not be produced with a finish quality that is below spot and streak free, meaning each stage of production requires purified water. The lack of contaminants within treated water will also contribute to keeping machines and equipment free from scale or particle build up, prolonging the service life.
The quality of water appropriate for these applications can be produced using a reverse osmosis system, polished with a deionising resin stage. ~99% of salts and ions will be removed during RO, reducing the risk of scale (calcium and magnesium ions) building up within the bath and other apparatus. The DI resin stage will remove any further charged ions from the water, making it suitable to be used in final rinses. Not only is this due to the water being of a purity that attracts the particles off the final product, but it also allows for PCB rinses as the water will contain no charge to interfere with the circuit.
